Ile d’Orleans (Island of Orleans) is located in the St Lawrence River just across from Quebec City (Mt Sainte Anne is in the background) The 190 square km island still retains is pastoral feel and is a paradise for photographers and other artists. It is either one of the earliest or the earliest French settlement in North America, Jacques Cartier arrived on the island in 1535, 20 years before St Augustine was established in Florida by the Spaniards. The first parish was established by 1661 around the same time Charleston, SC was being established.
